LARRY BIRD
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
All those points (21,791). And all those rebounds. And the no-look
passes. The three pointers. The clutch, game-winning shots. The MVP
awards. The NBA titles. The work ethic, determination, and will to
win. Has there ever been anyone quite like Larry Bird? |

MICKY WARD
BOXING LEGACY AWARD
Micky Ward was "The Fighter" - and a champion. After a mediocre
start to his career, the Lowell, MA boxer took a break. And then he
took off, capturing the title and fighting a memorable trilogy of
bouts with Arturo Gatti. You could make a movie about it... |

WILLIE O'REE
HOCKEY LEGACY AWARD
It's never easy being the first. This was especially for the
singular racial pioneers who integrated big-time sports. In hockey,
that man was Willie O'Ree of the Boston Bruins. His story is one of
class, courage, and character. |

BOBBI GIBB
SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
In 1966, Bobbi Gibb applied to run the Boston Marathon but was
told that women were not "physiologically capable" of running
marathons. Gibb decided to run, anyway, jumping into the field. She
ran, she ran well, and she finished (the first woman ever to do
so). So much for physiology . . . |

TY LAW
FOOTBALL LEGACY AWARD
Some guys have the knack for the moment. Ty Law was one of those
guys. Remember when he picked off Manning three times in the AFC
Championship? Or took it to the house against the Rams in the Super
Bowl? He was at his best in the biggest of games. And he has the
rings to prove it. |

MIKE LOWELL
BASEBALL LEGACY AWARD
Mike Lowell came to Boston as a "throw-in" in the Josh Beckett
trade. The classy vet went on to man the hot corner in the Hub for
five seasons, playing great defense, driving in a boatload of runs,
and winning a World Series MVP along the way. Some throw-in,
huh? |
