Bill Rodgers ’70 to be Honored at TD Garden in Boston by the Sports Museum

BOSTON, Mass. – The Sports Museum, a non-profit educational institution housed in the TD Garden in Boston, is holding an annual fundraising gala The Tradition on Wednesday, December 7 at the TD Garden. The lineup of honorees for the 21st annual gala includes historic marathoner and Wesleyan cross country/track & field alum Bill Rodgers '70. Rodgers is an Olympian and former record holder in the marathon, best known for his four victories in both the Boston Marathon (including three straight from 1978 to 1980, and four straight wins in the New York City Marathon (1976-79). Bill graduated from Wesleyan in 1970, where he ran both cross country and track, with a bachelor's degree in sociology.

This year's edition of The Tradition will feature Rodgers along with Boston sport icons Johnny Damon, M.L. Carr, Lawyer Milloy and Mark Recchi. The Sports Museum serves more than 35,000 at-risk kids each year through character building educational programs throughout the Boston area. The Sports Museum' Executive Director Rusty Sullivan says, "we are excited to honor Bill in light of his legendary career in road running as well as the qualities of character and spirit that he has displayed along the way."
