BOSTON — TD Garden hosted the 22nd installment of “The Tradition” with the Boston Sports Museum on Wednesday night to honor several historic figures in the Boston sports community.

Ex-Bruin Bob Sweeney, the face of the Bruins Foundation for going on 20 years, will take an apt bow in the spotlight Wednesday night as a “Tradition” inductee during the Sports Museum's annual gala at the Garden.

Running the UFC keeps Dana White busy, but he still makes time to watch Boston sports, including the 2-9 Patriots. White, who was one of six honorees at The Sports Museum’s 22nd annual “The Tradition” awards program at TD Garden Wednesday night, spoke with Boston.com about his Boston sports fandom at the event.

For his efforts guiding the Foundation, as well as his six years with the Black & Gold, Sweeney received the hockey legacy award at Wednesday night’s 22nd annual Tradition gala at TD Garden. Sweeney was feted alongside Patriots Hall of Famer Kevin Faulk, baseball Hall of Famer and Red Sox great Dennis Eckersley, former Celtics head coach and 2008 NBA champion Doc Rivers, UFC founder Dana White, and former Team USA women’s soccer goalkeeper Briana Scurry.

Revisit history: The Boston Bruins celebrate 100 years of competitive hockey next year, and dominated for decades since the team’s start (they won the first Stanley Cup to feature two American teams in 1929). From those early years to the storied 1970’s Bobby Orr era and more, you can get close up to it all at The Sports Museum at TD Garden.

Now, 17 years later, Damon is returning to Boston to receive the Baseball Legacy Award at “The Tradition,” the Sports Museum’s annual gala Dec. 7 at TD Garden. The event also honors Bill Rodgers, Lawyer Milloy, Chanté Bonds, Jillian Dempsey, M.L. Carr, and Mark Recchi, and helps raise money for The Sports Museum’s anti-bullying programs.

The Sports Museum’s 21st Edition of The Tradition held last week at the TD Garden was a fitting place to honor Hockey Hall of Famer (2017), and member of the 2011 Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins, Mark Recchi.

Seven Boston sports greats who each won titles were honored during the 21st edition of The Tradition on Wednesday. The annual fundraising gala at TD Garden helps support The Sports Museum, one of the longest-running sports museums in the country, as well as the educational programs that the nonprofit educational institution provides to at-risk children in the community.

By day, Dempsey is a mild-mannered fifth-grade teacher in the Winthrop Public Schools. By night — or to be honest, sometimes at sunrise as well — she dons her skates as a professional hockey player who is speedy and assertive, dangerous near the net, and dogged when she plays defense.

Bonds will be honored with the Football Legacy Award at The Tradition, the Sports Museum’s annual gala, on Wednesday at TD Garden. The event will also honor Bill Rodgers, Lawyer Milloy, Johnny Damon, Jillian Dempsey, M.L. Carr, and Mark Recchi, and will raise money for The Sports Museum’s anti-bullying programs.

Rodgers will turn 75 this month and though he refers to them as “little ones,” he has competed in 10 races this year. When he won the marathon in 1975, he was 27 and had returned to running in the hopes of improving his lungs after quitting smoking. Now a running legend, he will be honored at The Tradition.
